The Missing 1% Nobody Tells You
Most of us already know 99% of what there is to know about mosquito bites.
They itch. They swell. You put something on them. You move on.
But there's one piece almost nobody explains.
A mosquito bite leaves a bit of saliva under your skin. Your body reacts by releasing histamine the same chemical behind watery, itchy allergy eyes.
Histamine is what makes a bite itch.
Here's the missing piece: as long as a live mosquito is still in the room, your body keeps reacting. New bite. New histamine. New itch. All night long.
Half-asleep, your brain tells your hand to scratch. You never fully wake up. You never remember. But your skin does.
That's the moment I call "caught red-handed" waking up to damage your own body did, to a problem you thought you'd already solved.
Here's the part that made me the angriest.
I found out bug zappers barely catch mosquitoes at all. University researchers have tested this directly. The bright blue light pulls in moths and other bugs by the hundreds but female mosquitoes, the only ones that bite, don't even hunt using light. They hunt using the CO2 you breathe out and the heat off your skin.
Our zapper had been "working" loudly every night. We were still getting bitten anyway.
Citronella had a different problem. It only protects a small area around the flame, and only when there's no wind. In a real bedroom with vents and ceiling fans, that little bubble barely exists.
And spray only protects the skin it's actually on. Try getting an entire wriggling 7-year-old covered, evenly, every night, all summer.
We hadn't been failing. We'd just never had a solution built for the actual problem.
