I called an exterminator in tears.
He said it would cost $1,800 per room and that I’d have to leave my house for three days.
I couldn’t afford that.
But I also couldn’t live like this.
I felt trapped in my own home.
I started sleeping on the couch.
Then they followed me there, too.
I threw away my mattress, my sheets, my curtains.
Still, they came back.
I was exhausted, embarrassed, and terrified to close my eyes.
I even caught one crawling across my baby’s blanket.
That was my breaking point.
I felt like I was failing as a mom.
